Santa Isabel Cemetery - Tourism in Vitoria-Gasteiz

Santa Isabel Cemetery

This cemetery takes its name from an extremely old hermitage and its adjacent district. Established at the beginning of the 19th century with mass burials following a typhus epidemic, the graveyard was chosen by the Madrid City Council as an example for future cemeteries in the city, according to reports: "it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and comprehensive cemeteries in Spain".
It cannot currently be extended due to its location in the city, only burials in previously-reserved graves are allowed.
