By car

Vitoria-Gasteiz stands in the middle of the Llanada Alavesa, on the road that joins Madrid to the rest of Europe, via the N-1 highway. The city is less than an hour from Bilbao, one hour from Pamplona, two hours from Santander, three hours from Zaragoza and less than four hours from Madrid.

By bus

Vitoria Airport (VIT)

Vitoria airport (VIT) is located 8 km. from Vitoria-Gasteiz, in a privileged location that allows you to reach Bilbao in 45 minutes (58 km.) and the region of Rioja Alavesa and cities like Hondarribia (121 km.) or San Sebastián (116 km.) in just over one hour. Also known as the Foronda Airport, well-known since 1994 for its high volume of freight traffic.

• Connections: regular passenger lines connecting to Madrid and Barcelona airports with Volotea, and to the airports of Seville, Alicante, Brussels-Charleroi, and Milan-Bergamo (from March 2026 also with Málaga and Palma de Mallorca) with Ryanair. Loiu airport (Bilbao)

If you arrive at Bilbao airport you can take the urban bus service (Bizkaibus) that takes you to the central Bus Station, and from there the journey to Vitoria-Gasteiz takes less than one hour.

• ¿Por qué un viajero que llega a Foronda no puede tener un autobús de línea como tenía el año pasado(2025)?

  Las opciones que tienes

  1. Tener un familiar que te vaya a recoger

  2. Reservar un taxi de antemano para que te lleve a tu destino, si es la ciudad de Gasteiz ,o a la estación de autobuses, si te diriges a otro lugar.

  3. Reservar el bus que viene de Loiu para llevarte a Vitoria, el cuál tiene una frecuencia de dos horas.

  Considero que esta no es la mejor manera de dar a conocer nuestra ciudad , ni nuestra provincia. Sigamos siendo una ciudad de tercera división con estas decisiones que toman tanto los políticos del ayuntamiento como los de la diputación de Álava
