Origin of the room's name

Micaela Portilla (1922 – 2005). She was a historian, anthropologist and pedagogue. She studied Teaching, Philosophy and Literature, and Geography and History. In her doctoral thesis, she researched the ‘Fortified Houses and Towers of Álava (1977)’.

For many years, she signed journalistic collaborations under the pseudonym ‘Leocadia Zabalate’. She was the first woman to be named an honorary doctorate by the UPV/EHU in 1993.
