Football - Tourism in Vitoria-Gasteiz
Whether you want to play or watch a football match, Vitoria-Gasteiz has many facilities, from different football pitches to a stadium where you can watch top-class matches. It doesn’t matter whether you’re here for the day, or for the whole weekend, the city has plenty of options so that you can enjoy your free time.
Men’s football
The city’s football team, the glorious Deportivo Alavés plays in the Spanish first division at the Mendizorrotza ground, very close to the city centre.

The pitch is next to the Mendizorrotza sports complex and very close to the La Senda Path, the city’s main tourist artery. This path leads to the centre of the city via the Prado Park, passing through the Ajuria Enea palaces (the official residence of the Lehendakari), the Armoury Museum and the beautiful Augustín Zulueta Palace, which is home to the current Fine Arts Museum.
Women’s football
In Vitoria-Gasteiz, there are two women’s football teams in the second division.
- Aurrera de Vitoria play their matches at the Olaranbe pitches; located to the south of the city and next to the greenway of the Basque-Navarrese railway, right next to the Álava mountains.
- Deportivo Alavés Gloriosas play at Ibaia, next to the district and forest of Zabalgana, which is part of the green belt that surrounds the city.
