Salburua consists of wetlands formed by several large pools -Arkaute and Betoño are the main ones-, together with the number of turfed areas and a small oak wood. Having been drained several centuries ago to transform this area into farmland, the work intended to restore this area was begun in 1994 and has returned the wetlands to their original condition. Salburua is one of the most valuable continental wetlands in the Basque Country, is a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance and Community Importance Place into the European Natura 2000 Network.
There are several itineraries that run around and connect the park?s pools. The interpretation center Ataria and 2 bird observatories help visitors to discover and enjoy the natural wealth of this place.
