Álava Esquivel Palace - Tourism in Vitoria-Gasteiz
15th century building flanked by two towers. Throughout history it has been home to the Álava family. Visitors such as Francis I of France have slept here, and also the Duke of Wellington. It was he, alongside General Álava, who won the Battle of Vitoria and thence the beginning of Emperor Napoleon's decline. Nowadays, the building belongs to the Moroccan Council of Tangiers and has been converted into apartments.
Must-sees
- Notice the "Battle Clock" located on the front of the building: legend has it that the clock was captured from an English ship on the 25th of June 1805, during the Battle of Trafalgar.
