Vitoria-Gasteiz participated in the LGTBIQ+ travel Symposium Basque Country organized by the Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs Department of the Basque Government and the Basque Tourism Agency Basquetour, in collaboration with Out There Magazine and Queer Destinations.
This international event took place on May 8 and 9, 2025, at the Auditorium of the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao. During the symposium, Vitoria-Gasteiz Convention Bureau had the opportunity to connect with over 100 LGTBIQ+ tourism professionals, both local and international, including media representatives, travel agencies, influencers, and experts in marketing, sales, and training.
Vitoria-Gasteiz Convention Bureau showcased some of the city's attractions and invited international media outlets prominent in the LGTBIQ+ segment, such as Travel Weekly, Attitude, Ladevi España, queer.de, GCN (Gay Community News), Pink Box, and influencers such as Couple of Men, Marley Conte, @elseundilse, and Sarah and Kokebnesh, among others.
In addition, between May 5 and 7, several familiarization trips, also known as "fam trips," were organized in the Basque Country for tourism professionals, including media representatives, travel agents, and influencers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and various European countries.
These initiatives reflect the region's commitment to diversity, equality, and hospitality, as outlined in the Basque Country Tourism Code of Ethics. They also demonstrate Vitoria-Gasteiz's significant investment in becoming an inclusive and diversity-respecting destination.
In this context, the municipality has implemented its second Coexistence and Diversity Plan for the period 2023-2030, titled "Towards the Right to the City: An Inclusive and Discrimination-Free Citizenship." This plan emphasizes the importance of ensuring that all individuals feel part of the city, alongside promoting peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.
Thus, the Basque capital aligns with the regional sentiment regarding the growth opportunities that inclusive tourism presents within its territory.
