Ataria
Who we are
Dependent on the Centre for Environmental Studies (CEA), Ataria is the Interpretation Centre for the Salburua Wetlands. The object of this facility is to promote the knowledge of wetlands, display their values and, in addition, highlight the importance of biodiversity and of natural heritage.
The 2009 summer issue of the newsletter "+Verde", which features news on the Green Belt, provides a monographic explanation (1.29 MB) of the characteristics of Ataria.
Salburua Park
Salburua Park, which is part of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Green Belt, is located in a wetland area that had been virtually drained in the late 1980s due to drainage projects that commenced in the middle of the nineteenth century in order to dedicate this land to farming and, then, at a later date, to town development.
In the early 1990s, and as a result of ecological restoration actions, it was possible to recover the wetlands and the typical plant and wildlife communities of this ecosystem.
