We propose six routes through the province of Alava, which we are sure you will enjoy:
Across the Llanada Alavesa.
Situated in the centre of the province, the Llanada (plain) has
been crossed by different peoples and cultures since the dawn of
time. If you can, stop at the village of Salvatierra and take a
walk around the medieval quarter and visit the churches of San
Juan and Santa María.
This route offers some of the most beautiful
landscapes in our province. The regional council organises guided
coach trips. There are three routes: the reservoirs route, the
tower-house route and the waterfalls route. You can get more information
at www.aramaio.org
This valley has played an important part in
the history of Alava and the Basque Country as a stopping place
for travellers travelling between Castile and the Cantabrian coast.
From the architectural viewpoint, a major feature of the valley
is its towers and fortified houses, constructions of a defensive
nature dating from the medieval era. If you would like more information
about this area, visit www.aiarakokuadrilla.com and www.ayala-aiara.com
This region still contains a number of interesting
medieval villages and mansions, the homes of noble families, as
well as chapels and primitive churches. You can find more information
about this beautiful area at www.montanaalavesa.com.
This is in the western part of the province and
contains a large number of interesting places to visit, as well as
beautiful landscapes. You can explore its interesting “salt valley” and
visit the Roman fort "Oppidum" of Iruña-Veleia.
