This Museum is housed in the Palacio de los Arrieta-Maeztu, a singular building constructed in 1525 by Juan López de Arrieta in the old defensive tower of the Maeztu family. It contains the largest collection of playing cards in the world, amounting to more than twenty thousand exhibits.
The Museum is given the name of ‘Fournier’ in honour of its founder, Heraclio Fournier, descendant of a French family that settled in Spain in the 18th century and opened its first card-making workshop in Vitoria in 1868
