The Environmental Studies Centre was set up at the end of the eighties, with a view to encouraging environmental training locally.
The first step was to organize a postgraduate course to train what we loosely call "environmental technicians", in the broadest sense of the word. Gradually we diversified our work to include more specific, and we believe interesting, specialities such as: Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Environmental Services to Companies, Assessment and Correction of Environmental Impact, etc.
We have also started designing training courses for people with lower level qualifications and refresher courses for the Administration and private companies, always of a very practical nature and always in an effort trying to help job seekers with practical training.
The CEA has also developed a close and interesting relationship with universities and research centres, a relationship which has included helping with doctoral theses, publication, teaching programmes, research projects, advise and the supervising of end of degree/master projects and practical work.
In May 1995, the CEA became an independent body. Its Statutes state that its aim is to promote environmental education, training and research, at the same time as promoting the development of new lines of work.
