Enviromental data bank
The data bank, which represents the core of the Environmental Information System, contains a wide range of data and documents of environmental interest: basic and thematic cartography, sampling station records, reports, projects, surveys, etc. It also contains other kinds of information such as aerial photographs, satellite imagery and relational databases.
A large part of this material is available in electronic format, allowing this to be managed with computer tools such as Database Management Systems or Geographic Information Systems.
Information available in more conventional formats is processed so that it can be accessed and consulted by environmental specialists and citizens interested in these issues.
This body of data requires a lot of work to be done to maintain and update information on the environment. This entails a periodic review of its contents, improving cartographic scales, the continuous incorporation of new subjects and an adequate treatment of documentation.
